How To Share Files Between Two Computers Using Wifi

Do you need to move files from one Windows computer to another without using any third-party application? If you would like to know how to transfer your files from one PC to another, please continue reading.

When Windows 10 was updated in April 2018, a whole lot of new features were added to Windows. These features include Nearby Sharing. Nearby Sharing enables one to move or share files from one PC to another PC as long as both PCs are running Windows 10, version 1803, or later versions. This feature added to Windows 10 works just the same way AirDrop works in Apple devices.

Using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in your devices, you can conveniently share files with the Nearby Sharing feature in your Windows PC. Whether or not your PCs are connected to an internet network, Nearby Sharing works perfectly well. When the two PC s are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, Nearby Share uses Bluetooth to send and receive files. Nearby Sharing It does not use internet bandwidth to share files.

Talking about the allowed file size limit, Nearby Sharing allows files of all sizes to be shared, but to facilitate fast file transfer from one PC to another, we recommend connecting the PCs to the same Wi-Fi network. It takes less than 5 minutes to transfer file size of up to 900MB using Nearby Sharing.

For you to share files using the Nearby Sharing feature on Windows 10, the under-listed requirements must be met:

Requirement 1: The two computers must have at least Bluetooth version 4.0 with Low Energy support.

Requirement 2: To be able to send or receive files, the Windows running on your PCs must have version 1803 or later versions. You can upgrade your Windows to this version of the later versions.

Requirement 3: The two PCs that want to share and receive files must be within the Bluetooth range specified. This wouldn’t be a problem anyway, as long as the two PC are within the same room or office space.

Having met the requirements above, carefully follow the step-by-step guide to use Nearby Sharing to move the desired files.

Steps to transfer files between PCs

Step 2:

it is recommended that you connect both PCs to the same Wi-Fi network. This is to enable speedy file transfer. Don’t worry, Nearby Sharing even though your PCs are connected to a Wi-Fi network does not consume your internet bandwidth. However, if the PCs are not on the same Wi-Fi network, Nearby Sharing automatically switches to the Bluetooth network for file sharing. The downside of this is that Bluetooth file sharing is slower when compared with the Wi-Fi file-sharing method.

Step 3:

Navigate to SettingsSystem > Shared Experiences on both computers. That is, on the sending and receiving computers. From here, enable Nearby Share on the sending and receiving computers.
